What is a Sgian Dubh?

The sgian dubh (pronounced "skee(a)n doo") is a ceremonial dagger (Gaelic sgian) worn as part of the modern Scottish Highland dress along with the kilt. It is worn tucked into the hose with only the pommel visible. The sgian dubh is normally worn on the right leg.

What is Damascus Steel?

This correctly, should be called pattern welded steel, because it is the creation of patterns within a knife blade or ornament using two or more different types of iron & steel. These are welded together at high temperature, using a hammer and anvil to produce a solid bar.

What is Mokume-gane?

Mokume-gane is a mixed-metal laminate with distinctive layered patterns. Literally translating as "wood eye (i.e., burl) metal", the name was borrowed from one type of pattern created in the forging of swords and other edged weapons.

Are your pieces Hallmarked?

Yes, my makers mark is registered with the Edinburgh Assay Office, so every piece has my initials on & the appropriate assay mark, e.g. silver is stamped 925 and gold 375, 500 etc.

Can you post abroad?

Yes we can to most countries, and depending on the country, we would give you an idea of cost and insurance.

How long it will take to make?

Depends on a number of factors, what it is, and workload at the time, if there is specialist processes involved e.g. gilding. But it will take a minimum of 6 weeks for the simplest items.

Do you have a brochure?

No we don't provide a brochure as all pieces are bespoke and made to order.

Why don't any of your items have prices?

Every item made is a bespoke private commission. Each commission is quoted for on a piece by piece basis with the overall cost being dependent on such things at size, material and complexity.
